SIMOTTO produces typically two kinds of graphical output:

  • the final or integrated results and
  • the indicated results.

The final or integrated results, like filling rate, torque, power ... in function of a given parameter, like engine speed, intake pipe length, ...

This plot is the typical result of a parameter study, where one design parameter (in figure aside, the intake pipe diameter) has been continuously modified. Parameter study's are the most powerful method to optimise the engine design.

The indicated results, like pressure evolution at different engine sections over two crank rotations or instantaneous mass flow through valve sections ...

The indicated output is very useful for understanding of the engine behaviour. This understanding may guide the user through his engine development in order to accelerate, once again, the optimisation work.

As an example, the blue line in the plot shown indicates, that  there is an important reverse flow at the intake valve near 270 °CA, i.e. before the valve closes.
